Activate Tairāwhiti’s mission is to ensure every child in Te Tairāwhiti (Gisborne and the East Coast) has an economic future. With a clear action focused on helping develop a skilled and talented workforce, Activate Tairāwhiti has embedded its response to youth employment within the Economic Action Plan for the region, and the regional youth employment strategy.
A key feature of developing their people is by developing employability skills through the Licence to Work programme, which is delivered in schools in Ruatoria, Tolaga Bay, Gisborne, Te Karaka and Wairoa by school facilitators as well as an independent external facilitator.
Te Tairāwhiti has also established a local community-led initiative to grow youth enterprise in Te Tairāwhiti and aims to provide a more supportive environment to grow tech innovation, enterprise and social enterprise in Gisborne, Wairoa and Ruatoria.
