General Fund Applications

If you have ensured that you are eligible to apply to the General Fund by taking our eligibility checklist then we look forward to hearing from you. We have a two-step funding process; the first step is quick and simple and involves completing a two page Expression of Interest:

Please sign this form and mail to The Todd Foundation, P O Box 3142, Wellington.

Closing dates:

The Todd Foundation trustees meet to decide on grants twice a year in May and November. Expressions of Interest are accepted all year, and go through an initial screening usually within 6 weeks of receipt. Closing dates are as follows:

  • Expressions of Interest which pass initial screening and are received by 28 February will be considered in early March. Selected applicants will then be invited to put in a full proposal for consideration in May.
  • Expressions of Interest which pass initial screening and are received by 31 August will be considered in early September. Selected applicants will then be invited to put in a full proposal for consideration in November.

How funding is decided:

If your Expression of Interest passes through both the initial screening and the Expression of Interest selection process, you will be invited to submit a full proposal to the trustees. We will provide a list of questions to answer directly to invited organisations and you will have several weeks to prepare this. We will then assess your proposal, check referees, visit where appropriate and finally provide your full proposal to trustees of the Foundation for their consideration.

The key criterion we use when assessing applications is the degree to which the proposed initiative meets our goals, although other criteria are also taken into account, and, from time to time and in exceptional circumstances, trustees will exercise their right to fund outside the current criteria. You are welcome to contact Todd Foundation staff for advice when preparing your application or for feedback afterwards. Please note however that all funding is processed through the Foundation; trustees do not respond to personal approaches.
